If you're like most people, you’ve probably tried to download something and saw a 10 - 15 minute download time…And the worst part is, it’s just a PDF document! Don’t fret. Whether you're downloading music, movies, or games, there are a few things you can do to ensure you're getting the most out of your connection.

Let’s take a look at a quick few tips to bring you back that less than one minute download time (for the most part).

1. Close any unnecessary programs

If you're downloading a large file, you'll want to make sure that you're not running any other programs that are eating up your internet connection. This includes things like streaming video or music, or even browsing the web.

This also includes other devices, such as a TV running Netflix in the background, or anything else that may be actively using your internet connection.

2. Try a different browser

If you're using a browser like Internet Explorer or Safari, you may want to try switching to Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, or Mozilla Firefox.

These browsers generally have better download speeds than browsers like Internet Explorer or Safari.

3. Use a download manager

A download manager is a program that helps you download files faster by splitting the files into smaller pieces and downloading them simultaneously.

Some websites also may be naturally slow for downloads. In this case, download managers can help. Websites may limit the download speed of a single connection in order to save on their bandwidth. Download managers help by opening multiple connections for downloading many or large files.

There are a number of different download managers available. You can try using a program like the Free Download Manager or Internet Download Manager

4. Restart your router

If you're still having trouble, you may want to try restarting your router. This will clear any DNS cache or any bugs that may be causing problems.

5. Check your internet plan

If you seem to think your download speeds in general are sluggish, and are consistently leading to frustrating download times, it may be time to think about checking the internet plans your ISP provides.

If you are looking to significantly boost your download speeds, think about upgrading your internet plan both in terms of speed, and also in bandwidth — especially if your household has multiple people using the internet.

6. Contact your ISP

If you've tried all of these things and you're still having trouble with download speeds that are far below expected, you may want to contact your ISP and ask them if there's anything they can do to improve your download speeds… This also brings us to our last way you could up your download speeds.

7. Let Wipstream Home do the work

Wipstream can combine your home internet with Wipstream data from nearby mobile data towers, which can not only fix unstable connections and extend the range of your internet, but also significantly boost your download speeds.
